Software Engineer, Platform

Location: Remote, United States-based; listed in Champaign, IL, USA

Salary: $140,000–$200,000 USD per year, plus bonus and stock, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Design, build, and own APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and the public text-to-speech API.
• Improve inherited services by making them faster, more cost-efficient, reliable, and resilient.
• Establish correctness before deployment and create automated checks that preserve it over time.
• Automate repetitive operational work and turn proven solutions into repeatable team practices.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on the platform.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product development.

Requirements

• Proven backend development experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform and working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud provider.
• Experience using AI agents in daily development workflows, including defining what they can run, what requires review, and where autonomous action is not allowed.
• Strong judgment in validating results against logs, database state, and actual requests rather than summaries.
• Ability to explain technical decisions, remove unnecessary work, and respond constructively to correction.
• Must be based in the United States for this United States-based role.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
• Experience deploying highly available applications on Kubernetes.
