Model Development Student Assistant (Python)

Location: Berlin, Germany (hybrid); work from the Berlin office

Salary: €16–18 per hour, depending on experience and level of education

What you will do

• Develop and adapt Python code across models covering vehicle emissions, economics, and charging infrastructure.
• Prepare, quality-check, and integrate model input datasets.
• Run models and visualize and interpret results.
• Contribute to published model documentation and follow software development practices.
• Support research quantifying transportation policy impacts on emissions, energy consumption, air quality, health, and societal costs.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a later-stage Bachelor's or Master's program in data science, computer science, physics, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong academic record and interest in vehicle technology, climate change, air quality, energy, the environment, or public health.
• Superior Python data analysis skills, including pandas, SciPy, NumPy, and Matplotlib.
• Strong command of dataframe operations such as grouping, merging, pivoting, melting, filtering, and filling.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience authoring and documenting complex software with multiple scripts, packages, or interfaces.
• Knowledge of environmental and energy challenges in transportation.
• Experience with Git or GitHub.
• Familiarity with PyCharm, VS Code, or another Python IDE.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau.
