Applied Mechanics Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Remote, with travel to Idaho Falls, Idaho and the Materials and Fuels Complex as required. US citizenship is required.

What you will do

• Analyze, model, and design structural and mechanical systems for a novel advanced nuclear reactor.
• Perform linear and nonlinear static, dynamic, seismic, thermomechanical, stress, vibration, and material-plasticity analyses.
• Conduct seismic soil-structure interaction, site response, and nonlinear response analyses for structures, systems, and components.
• Support reactor design, equipment selection, sizing, safety analysis, accident simulations, and engineering documentation.
• Apply ASME, ASCE 7, DOE, and other applicable codes and standards to safety-class systems.
• Provide technical leadership, peer review, consultation, technical reports, presentations, and customer support.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program with at least eight years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with at least six years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of structural dynamics, seismic analysis, nonlinear soil-structure interaction, site response analysis, and seismic probabilistic risk assessment.
• Knowledge of nuclear systems and advanced reactors.
• Experience producing technical plans, drawings, models, calculations, and engineering design documentation.
• Ability to work remotely and travel to the Materials and Fuels Complex when required.
• US citizenship is required due to government contract and clearance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience applying ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5 to advanced reactor systems and components.
• Experience performing seismic evaluations under ASCE 7.
• Experience with advanced nonlinear site response analysis and seismic probabilistic risk assessment methods.
• Experience as a technical advisor, customer spokesperson, peer reviewer, or engineering lead.
