Advanced Supplier Quality Engineering Lead (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; reporting to the assigned location at least 3 times per week. Travel to supplier and GM locations up to 25% domestically and internationally.

What you will do

• Lead Supplier Quality plans and Plan-For-Every-Part activities for critical parts from early design through tooling, matching, launch, and production readiness.
• Execute APQP activities and program reviews, defining milestones, readiness criteria, risk owners, escalation paths, and closure evidence.
• Align product design intent with supplier manufacturing capability for sheet metal stampings, aluminum, ultra-high-strength steel, and related assembly applications.
• Assess formability, die-face strategy, stamping feasibility, material utilization, press handling, throughput, and potential defects such as splits, wrinkles, surface defects, and skid lines.
• Review supplier assembly processes, including sequencing, welding, clamping, datuming, checking fixtures, GD&T, tooling, and process quality.
• Identify supplier capability and launch-readiness gaps, coach technical partners, and use dashboards, documentation, digital tools, and approved generative AI to support risk tracking and decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, materials, or a related technical field.
• At least 5 years of experience in automotive assembly, stamping, manufacturing engineering, supplier quality, maintenance, or operations.
• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, facilities, process controls, verification procedures, and quality documentation.
• Experience with APQP, supplier development, program reviews, manufacturing readiness, and/or launch activities.
• Knowledge of sheet-metal, aluminum, or ultra-high-strength-steel manufacturing, including formability, tooling, assembly, and quality implications.
• GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must already have the required U.S. work authorization.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of OEM or Tier 1 program management experience.
• Experience with AutoForm, Dynaform, PAM-STAMP, LS-DYNA, NX, Vis Mockup, Uni-Graphics, Teamcenter Engineering, or comparable tools.
• Experience with welding, clamping, datuming, checking fixtures, hole-to-hole processes, GD&T, and matching.
• Red X, DFSS, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma certification.
