Staff Security Engineer - Federal (Cloud Security)

Location: Hybrid role based in Chicago, New York, Seattle, or Washington, DC; U.S. security clearance required

Annual base salary: $161,000–$221,000 USD, plus equity where applicable, bonus, and benefits.

What you will do

• Serve as a security subject matter expert in solution engineering and architecture reviews.
• Evaluate, design, implement, and enhance enterprise security systems and tooling.
• Build and maintain automation and cloud infrastructure with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Develop integrations with APIs, AWS, GCP, Azure, and security infrastructure.
• Write Python-based scripts and automations to streamline security operations.
• Establish monitoring and alerting for security posture, misconfigurations, and threats across endpoints, SaaS, and cloud workloads.

Requirements

• 8+ years of coding and scripting experience focused on security automation and custom tooling.
• Strong Python experience; Bash, PowerShell, or Go experience is beneficial.
• Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines, integrating security log sources, and processing security event data.
• Experience with Terraform, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and cloud-first security automation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance as required by government contracts.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills; regulated-environment experience such as FedRAMP High, IL4, IL5, or IL6 is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Advanced identity management experience with MFA, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, or WebAuthn.
• Deep knowledge of the Okta ecosystem and its integrations.
• Experience with policy-as-code, continuous compliance, and automated evidence gathering.
