Principal Forward Deployed Engineer - Okta for AI Agents (AI)

Location: Remote role associated with Bellevue, Washington; Chicago, Illinois; San Francisco, California; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Occasional international travel of up to 35% is required.

Annual OTE: $269,000–$369,000 USD for candidates in California excluding the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington; $240,000–$360,000 USD for other listed locations. OTE includes base salary and incentive compensation, with equity where applicable.

What you will do

• Define and maintain reference architectures for agent identity, delegation, auditing, and kill-switch patterns.
• Lead the most strategic, regulated, and technically novel customer deployments.
• Review architectures, coach senior field engineers, and establish technical standards.
• Translate deployment patterns into product roadmap priorities with product and engineering leadership.
• Advise CISO, CIO, and Chief AI Officer audiences and contribute to agent-identity standards and frameworks.
• Define evaluation and observability practices and build reusable modules, internal tooling, and enablement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience shipping production software, including deep distributed-systems and identity expertise.
• Expertise with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, RFC 8693 token exchange, act claims, CIMD, DCR, and DPoP.
• Knowledge of OWASP Top 10 for Agentic Applications, NIST AI RMF, MITRE ATLAS, MCP, A2A, ISO/IEC 42001, and the EU AI Act.
• Experience applying security practices in HIPAA, FedRAMP, and SOC 2 environments.
• Expertise in ReBAC and ABAC with policy engines such as OPA, Cedar, or OpenFGA, plus production AI-agent integrations and MCP.
• Ability to set technical direction across teams or accounts, mentor senior engineers, work with executive stakeholders, and travel internationally up to 35%.
