Agentic Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States, with work based around McLean, Virginia, and Arlington, Virginia; occasional work at a Booz Allen or customer facility may be required. Travel up to 10%.

Salary: $99,000–$225,000 annualized USD

What you will do

• Embed with client teams to document workflows, systems, data flows, decision points, and exception paths.
• Create operating maps and automation roadmaps that define the roles of deterministic software, agent judgment, and human approvals.
• Design, build, integrate, and deploy AI agents across enterprise tools, APIs, and data sources.
• Develop evaluation frameworks, golden datasets, regression tests, monitoring, audit trails, and performance metrics.
• Scale agents from shadow mode to increasing autonomy and production while measuring hours saved, risk reduced, and outcomes improved.
• Lead workforce adoption, training, change management, and the creation of reusable playbooks and components.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, technical advising, or solutions engineering.
• 4+ years building applications with generative and agentic AI technologies, including LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, or multi-agent orchestration.
• Production experience with LLM-powered systems or AI agents, including evaluation, monitoring, and post-launch iteration.
• Production coding experience with Python or TypeScript and enterprise-system integration.
• Experience working with customers or business stakeholders on requirements, process mapping, and technology adoption.
• Secret clearance and a bachelor’s degree are required.

Nice to have

• Department of War or Department of the Army experience.
• Agent orchestration frameworks, graph-based planners, tool-calling agents, or agent SDKs.
• Forward-deployed engineering, process mapping, organizational change management, or workforce transition experience.
• Cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, or experience quantifying automation impact.
• Master’s degree or Agile/cloud certification.
