Summer 2027 – Power Electronics Internship

What you will do

• Support power electronics design projects contributing to active space and military programs or the team’s technology roadmap.
• Develop and analyze multi-output power supply modules and point-of-load power supplies for RF and digital boards.
• Contribute to power architecture, component selection, schematic design, PCB design, verification testing, and production release.
• Perform hands-on laboratory characterization and troubleshooting using electronic test equipment.
• Work alongside experienced power electronics engineers on power conversion, control, fault management, filtering, and EMC.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an MS or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, with a focus on analog or power electronics.
• GPA of 3.5 or higher and strong fundamentals in electronics, power electronics, control theory, power systems, or analog electronics.
• Knowledge of DC-DC converter topologies, including linear regulators, Buck, Buck-boost, Flyback, Forward, Half-bridge, and Full-bridge converters.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, frequency-response and impedance analyzers, electronic loads, power sources, and signal generators.
• Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Q3D, SiWave, or HyperLynx.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

• Power electronics hardware design and prototyping experience from research, competitions, coursework, extracurricular projects, or internships.
• Experience with Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, or Xpedition for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Power magnetics modeling, design, and laboratory characterization experience.
• Experience with voltage-mode or peak-current-mode control and control-loop characterization.
• Knowledge of GaN or SiC devices, soft switching, resonant converters, or programming for hardware testing and data processing.
