Intern - T&D Standards Power Systems (Summer 2027)

What you will do

• Support protection and control technologies for grids with inverter-based renewables and storage.
• Develop hardware-in-the-loop testing plans and models for protective relays, controllers, and sensors.
• Investigate communication platforms and protocols for centralized and edge control applications.
• Conduct power system analysis using PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, DSA Tools, and ASPEN/CAPE.
• Develop statistical and analytical models, evaluate grid-enhancing technologies, and support equipment testing, pilots, and standardization.
• Prepare technical papers and reports while collaborating with utility departments and industry partners.

Requirements

• Must be based in the US role location: Dayton, Ohio.
• A second-year Master's or PhD student or higher is preferred.
• Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Familiarity with power flow equations, symmetrical components, and power system stability is strongly recommended.
• Proficiency in at least one popular programming language is required.
• Strong academic performance, attention to detail, organization, and presentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with power system analysis and control simulation software.
• Experience with inverter-based resources, DERs, EVs, or grid analytics and optimization.
