Salary: $60,000–$65,000 per year

What you will do

  • Perform metallurgical evaluations, including microstructure analysis, grain size measurement, and failure investigations.
  • Prepare samples for metallographic analysis through polishing, etching, and mounting.
  • Operate and maintain optical microscopes, hardness testers, and scanning electron microscopes.
  • Review and interpret test data and contribute to technical reports and client communications.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and technicians to develop and refine test methods.
  • Support compliance with internal quality systems, ASTM, ISO, and NADCAP standards, as well as laboratory safety and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field; an associate degree with supporting experience may be considered.
  • 0–3 years of experience in a laboratory or engineering environment, including internships or co-ops.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgical principles and testing standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work on-site in Lansing, New York.

Nice to have

  • Experience with metallographic sample preparation and microscopy.
  • Familiarity with SEM/EDS analysis.
  • Exposure to regulated industries such as aerospace or medical devices.
