TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer III (C/C++/National Security): Designing, developing, testing, and deploying real-time embedded flight software for spacecraft and launch vehicle avionics supporting national security missions with an accent on flight-quality C/C++ code, verification, and mission assurance. Focus on debugging SIL and HIL environments, developing automated regression tests, resolving software anomalies, and mentoring junior engineers.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States. Up to 20% travel may be required. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $164,652.00–$230,512.80 per year.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test real-time embedded flight software for spacecraft and launch vehicle avionics in C/C++.
  • Translate system and software requirements into robust, flight-quality code in collaboration with systems, avionics, GN&C, and test engineers.
  • Contribute across the software lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, code review, verification, and deployment.
  • Debug software in Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop environments and investigate software anomalies.
  • Develop verification and validation plans, including unit, integration, and automated regression testing.
  • Support configuration management, launch operations, mission readiness reviews, and continuous improvement while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of embedded software development experience.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded or real-time systems.
  • Working knowledge of real-time operating systems such as Yocto Linux, VxWorks, RTEMS, or FreeRTOS.
  • Experience with embedded software verification, testing, debugging, and communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, or TCP/IP.
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance is required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, refugees, or individuals granted asylum.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a related engineering or computer science discipline.
  • Python experience for test automation, scripting, or tooling.
  • Experience developing safety-critical or mission-critical flight software for satellites.
