Physical Intelligence Senior Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Onsite in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. Travel up to 10%.

Salary: $147,000–$214,300 per year.

What you will do

• Design intelligent systems integrating perception, reasoning, sensors, robotics, and physical actuation.
• Architect software frameworks for autonomous operation, adaptive control, AI-assisted decision-making, and cloud-based analytics.
• Develop computer vision, machine learning, and AI solutions for inspection, measurement, localization, classification, tracking, and process optimization.
• Integrate cameras, actuators, controllers, PLCs, industrial communications, edge devices, and robotic platforms.
• Build smart manufacturing systems for process control, equipment health monitoring, predictive maintenance, statistical process control, and digital twins.
• Lead technical workstreams, mentor engineers and researchers, and present recommendations to research leadership and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• Industry experience developing advanced software, automation, machine vision, robotics, or intelligent systems.
• Strong software development experience with C#, C++, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Experience developing machine vision systems with industrial cameras, image processing, and computer vision algorithms.
• Knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and hardware-software integration.
• Hands-on troubleshooting skills and experience taking technologies from concept through prototype and deployment.
• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience, master’s degree with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent education and experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, LangChain, or equivalent AI frameworks.
• Experience with robotic platforms, autonomous systems, PLCs, motion control, fieldbus networks, or industrial communications.
• Knowledge of database architecture, cloud platforms, edge computing, FPGA, embedded systems, real-time operating systems, or edge AI.
• Exposure to optics, photonics, imaging, spectroscopy, LiDAR, or advanced sensing technologies.
• Experience with smart factories, digital transformation, statistical process control, Six Sigma, or high-volume manufacturing.
