Staff Engineer, Perception Software (R5911)

What you will do

• Design and implement production perception capabilities in modern C++ with clear interfaces, strong performance, maintainability, and automated test coverage.
• Own features from requirements clarification and algorithm development through integration, SDK validation, documentation, and release readiness.
• Develop capabilities across object detection, tracking, computer vision, image processing, sensor modeling, mapping, and multi-sensor fusion.
• Work with sensor data contracts, coordinate frames, timing, configuration, simulation, replay, analyzers, embedded deployment, and end-to-end perception workflows.
• Diagnose complex system behavior using source code, logs, recorded sensor data, simulation, and focused experiments, then drive corrective action and regression coverage.
• Participate in design and code reviews, communicate technical tradeoffs, mentor engineers, and evaluate foundation-model applications for perception workflows.

Requirements

• Significant professional experience delivering production C++ software for robotics, autonomy, perception, real-time systems, simulation, or complex technical products.
• Deep experience in at least one area including object detection, object tracking, computer vision, image processing, sensor modeling, sensor fusion, estimation, or mapping.
• Experience delivering maintainable software beyond prototypes, including interfaces, tests, diagnostics, documentation, and integration into larger systems.
• Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills across algorithms, architecture, data contracts, configuration, timing, coordinate frames, compute behavior, and sensor data.
• Proficiency with Python tools for technical analysis, visualization, experimentation, or verification.
• Experience collaborating across disciplines and adopting AI-assisted development tools with disciplined human review and validation.

Nice to have

• Experience with autonomous aircraft, maritime systems, ground robots, automotive systems, defense applications, or deployed robotic platforms.
• Experience with multi-target tracking, data association, estimation, sensor or agent fusion, angle-only tracking, or measurement modeling.
• Experience with EO/IR, video, radar, LiDAR, GNSS/INS, camera models, calibration, or time-aligned sensor data.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux, edge or GPU compute, CUDA, TensorRT, NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm, simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or recorded-data replay.
• Familiarity with CMake, Nix, Conan, GitLab CI, vision foundation models, vision-language models, or robotics data and evaluation workflows.
