TL;DR
Controls Engineer (PLC/HMI): Configuring, programming, testing, and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems, HMIs, electrical panels, robots, and manufacturing equipment in a high-volume vehicle manufacturing facility with an accent on production-floor support, equipment integration, and continuous improvement. Focus on diagnosing complex manufacturing issues, deploying intuitive interfaces, integrating Fanuc robotics and motion-control systems, and improving quality, cost, safety, and responsiveness.

Location: Onsite in Saginaw, Michigan, United States; full-time onsite attendance required. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits and requires the ability to work any shift and weekends as needed.

What you will do

  • Configure, program, test, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-based control systems, HMIs, control panels, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and correct manufacturing-process and equipment deficiencies on the production floor.
  • Design and deploy user-interface displays and innovative automation solutions.
  • Support equipment design, construction, controls integration, plant installation, launch, and continuous improvement for vehicle manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and other stakeholders to improve quality, cost, responsiveness, and safety.
  • Learn new control technologies and coach or mentor colleagues on control-related issues using a hands-on approach.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of technical experience with electrical and control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with industrial automation, PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or DeviceNet networks.
  • Knowledge of servo motors, motion control, drives, electrical troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Experience with Fanuc robot setup and programming, plus the ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to manage complex projects with autonomy, collaborate across organizational levels, and work any shift and weekends as needed.
  • Must work onsite in Saginaw, Michigan, and must not require current or future GM immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, SCADA, Microsoft SQL, or Rockwell FactoryTalk Transaction Manager experience.
  • Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience, including assembly, welding, or fabrication.
  • Machine vision experience with Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc 3DV, or Photo Neo.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and high-voltage power distribution.
