Electrical PLC Technician 2nd Shift (Industrial Automation)

Location: Downers Grove, Illinois, USA; onsite plant position

Pay rate: $40–$43 per hour

What you will do

• Troubleshoot, repair, install, maintain, and modify low- and high-voltage industrial electrical, electromechanical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Diagnose single-phase and three-phase systems up to 600V, PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, VFDs, servo systems, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
• Support preventive maintenance, inspections, system startups, calibration, grounding verification, wiring validation, and power testing.
• Document equipment, power systems, control systems, schematics, drawings, and management-of-change activities.
• Install conduit and wiring, support electrical infrastructure and automation upgrade projects, and direct contractors during larger installations.
• Participate in continuous improvement and provide technical training for controls, automation, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least two years of industrial electrical, automation, controls, or electromechanical maintenance experience and/or training.
• At least two years of PLC programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance experience, plus two years of HMI troubleshooting and support experience.
• Knowledge of AC/DC circuits up to 600V, relay logic, motor controls, sensors, instrumentation, VFDs, motors, servo systems, and industrial automation networks.
• Ability to read and modify electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, manuals, and technical documentation.
• Ability to work around moving machinery, industrial noise, temperature extremes, vibration, forklift traffic, elevated or confined spaces, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Associate degree or higher in Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• PLC certification or a state electrician license.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, PanelView HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, Wonderware or similar HMI/SCADA platforms.
• Experience in food, beverage, consumer packaged goods, or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Experience with intrinsically safe or explosion-proof installations, reliability projects, automation upgrades, or technical training.
