Staff Android Engineer, In-Car Experience (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based in Mountain View or San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Create reliable Android components and user flows with modern technologies such as Jetpack Compose.
• Build in-car interfaces that communicate autonomous vehicle intentions clearly and build rider trust.
• Develop features for pickups, drop-offs, infotainment, music, games, maps, and passenger-trip experiences.
• Design and maintain software controlling displays, audio, and climate systems.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers, Product Managers, and Vehicle Software Engineers.
• Manage the full software development lifecycle for robust, safety-sensitive systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of Android application development experience, including testing, maintenance, and feature launches.
• Ability to independently design and implement significant features or components.
• Proficiency in Kotlin or Java and strong knowledge of Android internals.
• Experience leading technical designs and mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Android platform, AOSP, custom Android build, or embedded systems experience.
• Experience with in-car infotainment or automotive software development.
• Performance analysis and optimization for resource-constrained devices.
• Full-stack experience integrating client features with server-side APIs.
• Strong interest in pixel-perfect interfaces and fluid user experiences.
