Workers' Compensation Counsel

Location: Overland Park, Kansas, United States; regular attendance at court events, depositions, and other appointments is required, with travel as needed.

Annual base salary: $106,300–$175,400, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Handle a caseload of predominantly low- to moderate-complexity insurance defense litigation matters.
• Develop and apply litigation strategies to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Attend hearings, trials, depositions, court events, and other appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Advise and train claim partners and clients while building strong business relationships.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney; 3+ years of insurance defense litigation experience preferred.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Experience independently handling cases through trial or hearing and appeal, including hearings, dispositive motion arguments, and depositions.
• Strong legal research, persuasive writing, oral advocacy, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to travel to court proceedings and other meetings; a valid driver's license may be required depending on location.
