Sr. Trial Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Location: California, Sacramento; preferred locations are Sacramento or the Bay Area. Hybrid office or remote work is available, with frequent and occasional overnight travel.

Salary: $138,000–$243,000 annually; expected starting range: $138,000–$206,000.

What you will do

• Represent clients independently as lead counsel or as part of a litigation team across assigned courts and agencies.
• Manage a productive caseload spanning commercial and personal lines insurance defense, subrogation, and complex liability matters.
• Prepare legally and analytically sound case valuations and communicate updates to clients and claims partners.
• Monitor changes in law, technology, local rules, and procedural requirements affecting litigation strategy.
• Build professional relationships and support case referrals across legal and insurance networks.
• Mentor junior attorneys and trial division staff through guidance, training, coaching, and feedback.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license in the state where the position is located.
• Typically more than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
• Significant litigation, trial advocacy, negotiation, analytical, and legal research skills.
• Strong communication, organization, time management, decision-making, and case management abilities.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to meet corporate and legal ethics requirements.
