Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; Home Office

Annual salary: $117,000–$234,000, plus performance-based bonuses and potential stock compensation.

What you will do

• Develop and scale the Omni Catalog Service supporting millions of Sam’s Club customers.
• Design integrations with downstream applications built on event-driven, microservice-based platforms.
• Build robust APIs, n-tier applications, and highly scalable distributed services.
• Lead architecture, provide technical direction, and drive high-visibility cross-functional projects.
• Translate product and business requirements into technical designs, implement code, and conduct unit testing.
• Monitor systems, troubleshoot business and production issues, and support operational excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant computer science or software engineering field with 3 years of software engineering experience, or 5 years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with Java/J2EE, JavaScript, Python, RESTful services, and relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong knowledge of software design, distributed systems, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and API development.
• Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure, GCP, or OpenStack.
• Experience with internet-scale distributed technologies such as Solr, Kafka, and Memcached.
• Experience with DevOps, chaos engineering, SRE, and on-call rotations.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant computer science or software engineering field.
• Experience with Scala, object-oriented and functional programming, and digital accessibility standards including WCAG 2.2 AA.
