Engineering Technical Lead (Defense Technology)

Location: Fully on-site in San Diego, California, United States. Ability to travel up to 25% as needed.

Salary: $135,000–$273,000 per year. Additional disclosed ranges are $135,000–$231,000 and $164,000–$273,000.

What you will do

• Lead teams designing, architecting, delivering, and integrating complex DoD software and hardware systems for Navy ships and other operational assets.
• Define stakeholder requirements, success criteria, technical solutions, project plans, and program execution approaches.
• Lead deployment, installation, configuration, operational support, system integration, and field test execution.
• Troubleshoot advanced software, network, hardware, and integration issues during live testing and experimentation.
• Analyze test results, customer feedback, and performance trends to recommend corrective actions and improve system effectiveness.
• Coordinate schedules, costs, quality plans, suppliers, senior warfighters, test directors, and government sponsors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 7 years of experience designing, developing, and managing complex software systems for the Department of Defense.
• Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance required.
• Experience with systems engineering V-Model processes, system integration, distributed and tactical systems, and field test execution.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills across software, networks, hardware, and operational processes, with the ability to convert requirements into constrained technical solutions.
• Experience deploying and sustaining Navy software and hardware systems in mission-critical environments and communicating with senior warfighters and government sponsors.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and experience managing U.S. Navy or MDA contracts.
• Experience with logistics, procurement, classified packaging, deployment support, and spares management.
• Experience with Navy surface warfare systems such as Aegis Weapon System, CEC, or Link-16.
• Scripting or algorithm implementation experience with C++, Python, JavaScript, Java, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Background in software engineering, cybersecurity, IT, or networking.
