TL;DR
Heavy Equipment Technician (Diesel and Heavy Equipment): Repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, compact equipment, service vehicles, and light trucks with an accent on diesel and gasoline systems, hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, brakes, suspension, and emissions systems. Focus on diagnosing increasingly complex mechanical faults, performing engine overhauls and preventive maintenance, interpreting equipment data, and documenting repairs safely.

What you will do

  • Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, compact equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, hydraulic, brake, electrical, suspension, steering, wheel-end, tire, and undercarriage systems.
  • Service diesel and gasoline vehicles, including compactors, excavators, wheel loaders, and other fleet vehicles.
  • Perform gas and diesel engine overhauls and analyze oil samples, onboard computer data, and fleet management information.
  • Interpret equipment condition reports and repair orders, communicate with supervisors and operators, and discuss preventive techniques.
  • Complete repair documentation, parts usage records, consumables reports, and applied-time tracking.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a heavy equipment technician, including experience with increasingly challenging maintenance repairs.
  • Advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components.
  • Mechanical trade school certificate or degree and a certificate in electrical diagnostics.
  • Applicable ASE certifications and working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
  • At least one year of experience applying OSHA HazCom, lockout/tagout, and fire protection regulations.
  • Welding or fabrication skills and experience are required.
