Fiber Splicer (Fiber Optics)

Location: Based out of the Doral, Florida office and working in the field; candidates should reside within a 1-hour commute of Doral, FL. Night shift: 9:00 PM–6:00 AM. On-call, weekend, holiday, outdoor, underground, and indoor work may be required.

Salary: $23.41–$36.00 USD per hour, plus available shift differential pay.

What you will do

• Splice new-construction and restoration fiber cables, including loose tube, ribbon, micro, and OPGW cable types.
• Install, turn up, test, and provision SONET, WDM, Ethernet, and SDH equipment according to engineered designs.
• Use OTDR, PMD, optical spectrum analyzers, BER test sets, sniffers, and related fiber-optic test equipment.
• Conduct site surveys, inspect installations, label equipment and cabling, and maintain splice diagrams, patch-panel records, and test results.
• Troubleshoot network and customer issues, perform hardware and software updates, and support final acceptance with the Network Operations Center.
• Coordinate with the NOC, Sales, Engineering, customers, and carriers while participating in the night and weekend on-call rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
• At least 2–5 years of telecommunications experience in fiber splicing, installation, maintenance, repair, or outside-plant work.
• At least 2 years of field or military experience in wireless telephony, SMR, paging, or broadcast industries.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain the appropriate license for vehicles or equipment such as bucket lifts.
• Knowledge of fiber optics, SONET, MPLS, IP systems, Network Management Systems, sweep tests, OTDR tests, and data transmission technologies.
• Strong communication, organization, customer service, problem-solving, multitasking, and independent-work skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with base station equipment, NMS, low-power broadcast equipment, and network construction, installation, and maintenance.
• Experience using volt/ohm meters, RF power meters, frequency sweep equipment, spectrum analyzers, fault-locating equipment, and battery conductance meters.
• Knowledge of fiber termination panels and AC rectifiers.
