Operator Trainee (Oil Refining)

Location: El Paso, Texas, United States. Onsite work at the El Paso Refinery on rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Salary: $34.58–$56.66 per hour.

What you will do

• Monitor and operate refinery processing units or tank farms and record equipment readings.
• Conduct equipment checks, make operational adjustments, and troubleshoot process or equipment problems.
• Detect abnormal conditions such as unusual noise, temperature, pressure, and leaks.
• Respond to process upsets and emergencies, including firefighting, equipment isolation, evacuation, and other emergency response activities.
• Learn refining processes, tank farm product movements, and multiple operating assignments up to the Console Operator position.
• Work indoors and outdoors around heat, noise, heights, industrial equipment, and confined spaces while using required protective equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver's license and basic math, reading, writing, verbal, and computer skills.
• Mechanical aptitude, sound decision-making, and the ability to learn complex refinery-related material.
• Willingness to perform firefighting and emergency response activities and work without close supervision.
• Ability to meet physical requirements, including climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying 10–20 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance, and working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Successful completion of pre-employment assessment, drug and alcohol screening, medical screening, background check, and Basic Operator Training is required.

Nice to have

• At least three years of operations or maintenance experience at an industrial site.
• Vocational technical training in petrochemical, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Previous petroleum refinery or petrochemical plant experience.
