Senior / Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Fantasy Sports)

Location: Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City, United States

Salary: $180,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Build and own core fantasy systems covering leagues, rosters, drafts, waivers, trades, matchups, and scoring.
• Design data models, backend services, and API contracts for mobile and web clients.
• Scale real-time scoring by ingesting live statistics and delivering low-latency updates to millions of rosters and active sessions.
• Ship product features end to end in collaboration with designers and mobile and web engineers.
• Monitor, profile, and capacity-plan production systems ahead of peak sports seasons.
• At Staff level, own system architecture, lead design and code reviews, and help engineers deliver at scale.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience; Staff-level candidates need 8+ years and experience owning architecture at scale.
• Experience building and operating consumer products used by millions of users.
• End-to-end feature delivery experience, beyond infrastructure-only work.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, data modeling, caching, queues, and real-time fan-out correctness.
• Strong experience with at least one backend language: Elixir, Go, Java, Python, Rust, Node, or a similar language.
• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City and able to work hybrid. Sports or fantasy sports interest is expected.
