Software Chief Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote in the United States or Canada

What you will do

• Set software technical direction, vision, roadmap, architecture, and standards across multiple programs.
• Maintain the technical integrity and coherence of flight, ground, GNC, autonomy, edge/orbital compute, and developer-platform software.
• Resolve high-risk cross-program and cross-discipline software problems and remove technical roadblocks.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical decision boards, design reviews, anomaly investigations, and readiness assessments.
• Balance capability, reliability, security, maintainability, schedule realism, and technical risk.
• Mentor software leads, architects, and senior engineers while driving reuse, platform standardization, tooling, and CI/CD maturity.

Requirements

• 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including experience as a Chief Engineer, Software Architect, Distinguished Engineer, Technical Fellow, or equivalent senior technical authority.
• Experience providing technical direction across a software organization of 50+ engineers, multiple programs, and several engineering disciplines.
• Strong understanding of the complete software lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through verification, deployment, operations, maintenance, and anomaly resolution.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers, architects, and technical leads.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience establishing and executing an AI strategy, driving organizational change, and increasing AI adoption among technical and non-technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with flight software, spacecraft autonomy, GNC, payload software, onboard or edge computing, and ground-segment systems.
• Experience with spacecraft operations, on-orbit commissioning, anomaly resolution, or software updates to operational systems.
• Familiarity with digital engineering, model-based systems engineering, requirements management, software product assurance, and formal verification.
• Experience building common software platforms, SDKs, reusable services, and shared infrastructure.
• Experience in a scaling technology company with evolving processes, architectures, and organizational structures.
