TL;DR
Platform Software Engineer (AI): Building and operating deployment platforms, production container images, CI/CD pipelines, and internal self-service infrastructure for desktop, on-premise, cloud, and air-gapped environments with an accent on AWS, Infrastructure-as-Code, application security, and distributed stateful systems. Focus on designing reliable upgrade and recovery paths, validating AI-generated output against precise specifications, and owning deployment testing across diverse customer environments.
Location: Remote within the UK, with monthly attendance required at the Cambridge offices
Salary: £60,0000–£65,000 per year

What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain deployment software and tooling for desktop, single-box, on-premise, cloud, and air-gapped environments.
- Build production-grade container images and interfaces for hosting platforms.
- Own deployment, upgrade, and recovery paths for stateful distributed components already shipped to customers.
- Develop internal platform capabilities that enable R&D teams to self-serve infrastructure and software.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, deployment instrumentation, and release processes.
- Define deployment testing strategies, contribute to architecture, and validate AI-generated output against specifications.
Requirements
- Experience in commercial platform or software engineering, including deployment and operational concerns.
- Experience shipping software to structurally different deployment targets.
- Experience building and shipping production-grade container images.
- Experience with AWS cloud deployment and Infrastructure-as-Code, including AWS CDK or CloudFormation.
- Understanding of application security, trust boundaries, identity models, secrets handling, CI/CD, and deployment testing.
- Eligibility and willingness to undergo UK national Security Check (SC) vetting if required. A bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience, is required.
Nice to have
- Kubernetes experience.
- AWS or Azure certification.
- Experience with FastAPI, React, or TypeScript for internal developer tooling and portals.
