Skilled Fitter - CAWDE Operator (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Operate Electroimpact’s 5-axis Composite Automated Wing Drilling Equipment using CNC programs, HMIs, camera systems, and hold-to-run controls.
• Drill and countersink holes through composite-to-metal wing structures and perform temporary bolt or slave-dowel insertion.
• Calibrate machine positioning with Renishaw probes, surface-normality sensors, optical cameras, and through-skin magnetic sensors.
• Change drill bits and cutting tools and maintain coolant, chip-vacuuming, and recovery systems.
• Verify hole tolerances, countersink depths, fastening operations, and complete aerospace quality documentation.
• Follow Environmental Health and Safety procedures when operating automated equipment around assembly jigs and composite dust extraction systems.

Requirements

• Recognized time-served engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 equivalent in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or advanced manufacturing.
• Practical experience operating 5-axis CNC machine tools, reading G-code and M-code, and managing automated machining cycles.
• Knowledge of structural assembly, metal-composite stack drilling, and carbon-fiber machining.
• Eligibility for UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required.
