Lead Fullstack Engineer (AI)

Location: Bethesda, MD, United States. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret eligibility are required; an active Top Secret clearance is highly preferred.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and hands-on development for a full-stack team delivering secure Federal applications.
• Design and develop backend services, REST APIs, data-access layers, enterprise applications, reusable frontend components, dashboards, reports, award views, and signals.
• Integrate open-source AI and machine learning models, including model serving, inference, prompt and workflow integration, and evaluation.
• Build solutions combining structured and unstructured data for search, analytics, monitoring, and AI-assisted decision support.
• Establish coding standards, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD processes, release controls, authentication, RBAC, audit logging, data protection, and accessibility.
• Collaborate with agencies, product owners, data engineers, AI/ML practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams while supporting MVP delivery by the end of month six.

Requirements

• 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with enterprise applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and/or .NET/C# and secure web applications, REST APIs, backend services, data-access layers, and reusable frontend components.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities and open-source AI/ML models or frameworks into software applications.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews, Agile development, relational databases, and structured and unstructured data.
• Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on with architecture, coding, troubleshooting, documentation, and delivery.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret eligibility are required.

Nice to have

• Active Top Secret clearance.
• Experience with LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector search, model APIs, model serving, or AI agent and workflow frameworks.
• Experience with secure Federal, on-premises, air-gapped, or hybrid environments and Federal financial, grants, payment, or award-oversight platforms.
• Experience with Linux, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, or Rancher.
• Experience with data visualization, analytics platforms, decision-support applications, and Federal compliance requirements.
