Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work with 2–3 days in the office per week

Salary: CAD 90,000–140,000 annually, with potential exceptions for preferred skills and eligibility for incentive plans.

What you will do

• Lead a single engineering squad’s sprint execution, delivery commitments, and day-to-day coordination.
• Translate product requirements into clear, executable engineering work and partner with Product and Design on scope and trade-offs.
• Manage developers, including hiring, onboarding, performance, engagement, coaching, and career development.
• Maintain engineering standards, code quality, architecture discussions, and design and code reviews.
• Remove blockers and coordinate dependencies with other squads, enterprise teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Balance technical debt with feature delivery while supporting fast iterations, continuous deployment, and data-driven decisions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years as an Engineering Manager or equivalent team leader.
• Experience leading a team end-to-end across delivery, quality, reliability, and team health.
• Hands-on expertise with Java, React or another modern JavaScript framework, and enterprise integrations.
• Experience with sprint planning, estimation, Agile execution rituals, dependency management, and release coordination.
• Experience hiring, onboarding, coaching, and developing engineers, including performance and growth conversations.
• Ability to guide technical design and implementation and communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with Salesforce.
• Background in a product-focused technology company or startup environment.
