Applied Scientist (AI/NLP)

Location: Opportunity to be based in the Kitchener, Ontario office; salary range applies to exceptional talent based in British Columbia, Canada.

Salary: $161,500–$191,500 CAD annual base salary for British Columbia, Canada.

What you will do

• Develop and refine state-of-the-art NLP and machine learning algorithms for business communications products.
• Build LLM-based features for reasoning, multilingual and multimodal processing, and autonomous agents.
• Develop real-time multimodal systems that listen, reason, and act during live customer interactions.
• Evaluate and monitor model performance, troubleshoot issues, and assess business impact.
• Manage large-scale textual datasets and deploy models and algorithms into production.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams, publish research, and review academic submissions.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in linguistics, computational linguistics, computer science, machine learning, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of industry NLP experience with a Master’s degree or 1+ year with a PhD.
• Experience with machine learning, Python, PyTorch, and Git.
• Broad understanding of current LLM architectures and techniques for tuning and optimization.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
