Software Systems Engineer (VB.NET)

Location: Bridgend, South Wales, United Kingdom; office-based five days per week. International travel may be required to support field installations.

Salary: £60,000–£80,000 per annum.

What you will do

• Review software and system requirements with engineering, product development, and manufacturing teams.
• Develop and enhance VB.NET applications that interface with complex engineering systems and equipment.
• Plan and execute software testing, preparing test documentation, procedures, and technical specifications.
• Deploy and commission systems, provide installation support at international customer sites, and diagnose faults through customer acceptance.
• Maintain legacy and current applications by delivering updates, improvements, modifications, and corrective fixes.
• Provide technical guidance and training while supporting the Software Systems Manager with core platform development.

Requirements

• At least five years of commercial software development experience, ideally in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
• Extensive practical experience developing applications with VB.NET.
• HND or degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Understanding of, or strong interest in, machine control, motion systems, and software–hardware interaction.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer relationship skills.
• Ability to work in the Bridgend office five days per week and travel internationally for field installations.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of industrial control technologies such as PLCs.
• Exposure to laser control systems or similar specialist engineering technologies.
