2027 Summer Intern, BS/MS, Software Engineering, Commercialization (Autonomous Driving)

Location: Hybrid onsite internship in Mountain View or San Francisco, California

Salary: $60/hour for Bachelor's students; $70/hour for Master's students

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and operates fully autonomous ride-hailing services powered by the Waymo Driver.

What you will do

• Improve the stability and reliability of backend infrastructure.
• Build features for applications such as event response and vehicle maintenance tracking.
• Optimize the robotaxi marketplace by balancing service supply and demand.
• Design and develop backend infrastructure for ride-hailing businesses and autonomous vehicle fleet management.
• Build machine learning and optimization models for routing, demand prediction, destination suggestions, dispatch, and ETA prediction.

Requirements

• Progressing toward a BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Interest in infrastructure work, including internal tools, frameworks, and libraries.
• Interest in scaling commercial operations.
• Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills.
• Interest in self-driving cars.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed systems and backend development.
• Experience programming in C++ or writing robust, efficient code.
