Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD annually, plus potential annual bonus, equity, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Design and implement horizontal solutions for behavioral driving across pick-up and drop-off scenarios.
• Build quantitative evaluation techniques and scalable metrics for on-road performance.
• Develop foundational frameworks that advance the Waymo Driver's capabilities.
• Collaborate with Technical Leads, Product, and the Onboard stack.
• Contribute directly to solving challenging long-tail driving situations.
• Mentor junior engineers on the team.

Requirements

• PhD, master's, or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience in complex systems.
• Experience building scalable evaluation workflows, metrics for machine learning models, and large-dataset analysis.
• Strong API design skills with a focus on evaluation and data-driven techniques.
• Experience solving design problems spanning multiple components and collaborating across teams.
• At least two years of management experience.

Nice to have

• Autonomous vehicle or robotics experience.
• Experience with machine learning models in production systems.
• Coding proficiency in C++, Python, and SQL.
