Lead, AI Engineering (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Charlotte, North Carolina, or Fremont, California; requires four days per week in the office and occasional travel.

Annual base salary: $180,000–$220,000; California base salary: $209,000–$253,000, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of scalable AI platforms and resilient infrastructure for training and inference.
• Design end-to-end AI data architectures, including feature stores, vector databases, knowledge repositories, and model-ready pipelines.
• Lead the training, fine-tuning, deployment, lifecycle management, and monitoring of machine learning and generative AI models.
• Oversee Python ETL/ELT pipelines supporting model training, inference, retrieval-augmented generation, and intelligent automation.
• Build MLOps and LLMOps frameworks with model registries, CI/CD, prompt versioning, automated retraining, observability, and alerting.
• Partner with product, engineering, cybersecurity, compliance, and business teams while mentoring AI engineers and platform teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, machine learning platforms, data engineering, or AI infrastructure, including 3+ years leading or mentoring engineering teams.
• Strong experience delivering enterprise-scale machine learning, generative AI, and LLM-based solutions in production.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, or LangChain.
• Experience with cloud AI services, data platforms, lakehouse architecture, vector databases, Kubernetes, Docker, GPU environments, distributed computing, and Terraform.
• Ability to work four days per week from the Charlotte or Fremont office, attend in-person meetings, and travel occasionally.
