Claim Specialist - Property Field Inspection

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the assigned local territory within the United States. This remote-field role requires working from home while conducting in-person property inspections from a mobile office or vehicle. Candidates must reside within the listed service-area ZIP codes and may occasionally travel to other territories.

Salary: $63,089.65–$90,000 annually, plus potential yearly incentive pay of up to 15% of base salary.

What you will do

• Conduct on-site inspections and assess damage for residential, commercial, weather-related, accident-related, and large-loss property claims.
• Meet with policyholders, explain coverage, gather evidence, document findings, and prepare detailed claim reports.
• Investigate and adjust personal and commercial property claims with exposures up to $500,000.
• Evaluate policy coverage and terms, apply regulations and company guidelines, and determine claim validity.
• Communicate with policyholders, agents, and other stakeholders, including during difficult or emotional conversations.
• Negotiate and settle claims within authorized limits while providing professional customer service.

Requirements

• Residence within the assigned Cedar Rapids, Iowa service territory is required.
• Ability to investigate problems, evaluate information, interpret detailed policies, and make well-supported decisions.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and customer-service skills.
• Proficiency with mobile and desktop tools for documenting claims in the field and remotely.
• Physical ability to walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, access roofs at various heights and pitches, lift and carry equipment, and crawl in tight spaces.
• A valid driver's license is required. Required training, licensing exams, motor vehicle record checks, background checks, and possible rope and harness safety training must be completed.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance, business, construction management, or a related field.
• Customer service experience and knowledge of property insurance and claim handling.
• Knowledge of residential and commercial construction, building materials, water mitigation, and inspection processes.
• Working knowledge of Xactimate and XactContents.
