Middle Market Commercial Banking Underwriter and Portfolio Manager

Location: Birmingham, Michigan, United States. The proportion of on-site and remote work will be discussed during the interview. Legal eligibility to work at the specified location is required.

Salary: $120,000–$135,000 per year, plus potential incentive compensation and discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Manage commercial credit underwriting and existing loan portfolios in line with CIBC’s risk culture and policies.
• Serve as the primary contact for portfolio matters, lead renewals, and maintain client engagement through calls and visits.
• Complete annual reviews, maturities, financial reporting, covenant monitoring, loan documentation, and portfolio maintenance activities.
• Prepare CAMP reports, quarterly trend cards, FAS 114 memoranda, and SOX controls; approve risk ratings, borrowing base availability, and loan advances.
• Coordinate loan closings, client onboarding, deposit account opening, and Treasury Management setup.
• Identify cross-selling opportunities with Relationship Managers and mentor Associates and Senior Associates.

Requirements

• Commercial banking experience with credit underwriting, portfolio management, and client relationship management.
• Strong financial analysis, analytical thinking, decision-making, and risk management skills.
• Experience with credit negotiations, loan closings, underwriting, compliance, and portfolio administration.
• Ability to collaborate with Relationship Managers, commercial lending associates, and internal teams.
• Must be legally eligible to work at the specified United States location; visa sponsorship is not available.
