Principal Coating Engineer (Optical Coatings)

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize optical coatings and photonics devices for laser applications and new product introductions.
• Develop coating stacks, select materials, design tooling, and create new product offerings using IBS, MS, and other PVD technologies.
• Review RFQ technical packages, perform coating design analysis, prepare specification reviews, and support Sales & Marketing with customer inquiries and technical assessments.
• Develop qualification, process, test, routing, SOP, and in-process control documentation for NPI products.
• Support FAT and FLP builds, resolve technical issues, improve yield and cycle time, and transfer products into mass production.
• Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for field returns and coating process issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience developing and manufacturing optical coating products using IBS, MS, and PVD technologies.
• Experience with complex optical coating design, thin-film deposition of metals, alloys, dielectrics, and polymers, and optical and physical coating characterization.
• Proficiency with thin-film design software such as OptiLayer and FilmStar, plus experience with optical monitoring and crystal monitoring systems.
• Hands-on experience operating IBS, MS, and PVD coating systems and measuring spectral performance with spectrophotometers.
• Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks for jig and fixture design; SAP and optical fabrication experience are advantageous.
