Senior Ground Station Systems Engineer (Satellite Communications)

Location: San Francisco, United States. The role requires willingness to travel 20% of the time and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Base salary: $180,000–$240,000 USD annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and support satellite ground station architectures covering antennas, RF systems, modems, networking, monitoring, and control infrastructure.
• Perform link budget analysis and system performance assessments for GEO and MEO satellite systems.
• Develop technical requirements, interface definitions, architecture diagrams, system documentation, and scalable ground segment solutions.
• Collaborate with spacecraft, network operations, mission operations, software, business development, and program management teams.
• Contribute to commercial and U.S. Government proposals, RFPs, RFIs, white papers, technical volumes, compliance matrices, and cost estimates.
• Support customer technical meetings, design reviews, demonstrations, proposal presentations, risk assessments, and schedule development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field and 5+ years of experience in satellite communications, ground systems engineering, RF engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of RF communications fundamentals, including link budgets, antenna systems, amplifiers, RF chains, modulation, and coding.
• Experience with RF electronics, communication hardware, antenna design and operations, calibration, diagnostics, monitoring, and RF test equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting RF components and supporting technical proposals, bids, captures, or customer solution development.
• Ability to create technical documentation and communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required; willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance is required.

Nice to have

• Digital Signal Processing experience, including modem design, waveform development, channelization, beamforming, or digital communications systems.
• Experience with FPGA-based signal processing, GNU Radio, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or SDR development environments.
• Knowledge of phased arrays, adaptive coding and modulation, digital payload architectures, antenna control units, tracking systems, spectrum management, and networking.
