Associate Director, Discovery Portfolio Management Strategic Planner, Discovery (Biotech)

Location: Cambridge, MA; Lake County, IL; or Worcester, MA

Salary: $141,500–$268,500 per year

What you will do

• Provide strategic oversight, portfolio analytics, and recommendations for Discovery Research operations and leadership decisions.
• Support portfolio prioritization, governance, operational decision-making, and continuous improvement.
• Analyze portfolio composition and performance to identify trends, gaps, risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
• Track and interpret KPIs including cycle time, success rates, throughput, budget performance, and portfolio health.
• Create leadership updates, executive-level presentations, and concise summaries of complex scientific, technical, analytical, and business issues.
• Partner across functions, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and use external intelligence on technologies, tools, and competitors to inform strategy.

Requirements

• BS with 10+ years, MS with 7+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of industry experience in drug discovery, ideally in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
• Strong background in portfolio analysis, project management, operations, or a related scientific or business discipline.
• Understanding of operational strategies for early-stage drug discovery programs across the drug development lifecycle.
• Experience analyzing data, identifying trends, and converting findings into actionable recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentations and slides.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
