Founding AI Engineer (Multimodal AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 base salary. Equity: 0.5%–2%.

What you will do

• Improve the accuracy of multimodal agents that evaluate construction and architectural plans.
• Design and run experiments through the hypothesis, implementation, evaluation, analysis, and iteration workflow.
• Build and improve AI evaluation frameworks, experiment sweeps, and autoresearch workflows.
• Conduct computer-vision experiments and analyze evaluation results.
• Develop lightweight data engineering solutions, internal tooling, and occasional web application improvements.
• Build domain knowledge in construction codes and support product dogfooding with limited weekly user interaction.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering or AI/ML engineering.
• Strong understanding of evaluation and experimental research methods.
• Ability to work independently, generate hypotheses, prototype quickly, and solve difficult technical problems.
• Comfort working across multiple technical areas, including multimodal AI and computer vision.
• Interest in housing, architecture, construction, or policy, with alignment to the mission around housing.
• Ability to work in person in San Francisco, California.

Nice to have

• Autonomous vehicle experience, particularly with Waymo or Zoox.
• Experience with highly regulated AI applications, medical or healthcare AI, legal AI, or climate-tech startups.
• Early-stage startup engineering experience and strong academic credentials.
• Experience interpreting complex technical documents or diagrams.
• Experience solving problems where incorrect model outputs have serious consequences.
