Senior Underwriter (Life Insurance)

Location: Remote Office - US; travel to the head office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is required.

What you will do

• Review new business, reinstatement, and coverage change applications.
• Evaluate medical, financial, lifestyle, insurance history, and other risk factors to determine underwriting classifications.
• Order medical tests and assessments, obtain missing information, and coordinate professional resource reports.
• Document application files, code medical reports, and communicate underwriting decisions to producers and members.
• Authorize applications within assigned approval limits and refer cases for reinsurance when required.
• Support underwriting policy, procedure, system, legislation, and standards reviews, consulting with the Chief Underwriter and Medical Director on complex cases.

Requirements

• Minimum five years of underwriting experience.
• AALU designation and progress toward FALU or FLMI designations.
• Strong medical and financial underwriting knowledge, including simplified issue and final expense products.
• Knowledge of underwriting theory, principles, methods, systems, processes, and standards.
• Knowledge of underwriting legislation and regulations across the US.
• Strong consultation, communication, and decision-making skills.
