Senior Underwriter, Business Insurance

What you will do

• Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of moderate to complex business insurance accounts across products.
• Underwrite and negotiate moderate to complex risks, including Mid Term Adjustments, in line with risk appetite and profitability objectives.
• Manage submissions, quotes, binds, portfolio performance, corrective actions, new business, and retention plans.
• Identify opportunities to write additional lines of business and use technology platforms to quote and bind risks efficiently.
• Lead and present underwriting reviews, manage action points, and collaborate with internal partners and sales teams.
• Build broker relationships, market and sell insurance products, travel to meetings, and coach and mentor less experienced underwriters.

Requirements

• A Levels or similar qualification.
• Strong experience in underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis, or risk assessment.
• Deep knowledge of insurance products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
• Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyse information in line with risk appetite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills for difficult broker situations.
• Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds, experiences, cultures, races, and viewpoints.
• Experience coaching and mentoring others.
• Ability to analyse competitor press releases and industry trade press, connect key themes, and apply insights to team strategies.
• Ability to participate in or lead projects involving complex analysis and implementation of routine business and regulatory changes related to products.
