TL;DR
Petroleum Inspector (Petroleum): Performing physical inspection, sampling, measurement, temperature checks, and reconciliation of bulk liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon transfers with an accent on API procedures, cargo quantity calculations, and safety standards. Focus on inspecting vessel and shore tanks, preparing SIR/SAT reports, coordinating with clients, customs, vessel personnel, and facility staff, and handling physically demanding field work.

Location: 614 Heron Dr, Logan Township, New Jersey, USA; onsite field work involving vessels, shore tanks, barges, ships, and shore facilities.

Salary: USD 20–26 per hour

What you will do

  • Perform physical sampling, gauging, measurement, and temperature checks of vessel and shore tanks.
  • Supervise transfers of bulk liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons and chemicals between tanks, barges, and ships.
  • Calculate transferred quantities and complete full cargo reconciliations.
  • Prepare reports and forms using SGS Ship Inspection Report and Site Acceptance Test systems.
  • Coordinate with clients, US Customs, vessel personnel, government agents, shore facilities, and SGS office staff.
  • Follow API procedures, SGS standards, safety practices, and the Code of Integrity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months to two years of transferable industry experience is preferred.
  • Basic English is required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required; the license must remain valid during employment.
  • Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, climbing, crouching, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lb.
  • Basic to intermediate MS Office skills and basic mathematics, including fractions and decimals.

Nice to have

  • Completion of the Inspector Development Program.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • International Federation of Inspection Agencies certification.
  • Previous petroleum, inspection, or related industry experience.
