Mainframe Software Engineer Lead

Location: Columbus, Georgia office only; candidates must currently live locally in the area. Hybrid work model with up to 3 days in the office. Candidates must be legally authorized to work full-time for any employer in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship.

What you will do

• Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle within an Agile Scrum team to create new software products and capabilities.
• Design, create, and deliver moderately complex program specifications, application solutions, user stories, acceptance criteria, screen mock-ups, and flow diagrams.
• Develop, modify, debug, unit-test, validate, and document complex mainframe code and applications.
• Gather and verify non-functional requirements, review architectures and designs, enforce application standards, and develop validation strategies.
• Participate in client-facing meetings, vendor partnership discussions, and joint venture discussions to determine solution approaches.
• Advise leadership, challenge scope creep, negotiate timelines, estimate resources, and provide expertise and training to software engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business/Management Information Systems, or a related field.
• Typically 6+ years of professional experience in coding, designing, developing, and analyzing data.
• Required experience with COBOL, IMS, and DB2.
• Advanced knowledge of two or more enterprise programming languages or technologies, including experience with APIs, external services, and relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with mainframe technologies, CICS, DB2, IMS, and File Manager.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and related project artifacts, including user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Ability to collaborate with developers, analysts, product owners, test analysts, client counterparts, and business and technology teams.
• Ability to analyze problems, organize findings, recommend approaches, and communicate with leadership.
• Ability to develop and maintain project and system documentation and participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies.

Nice to have

• 6–8+ years of professional experience in coding, designing, developing, and analyzing data.
• Experience with IBM Rational Tools.
• TS2 experience.
