Staff/Sr. Staff HW Test Automation Engineer (Photonics)

Location: Toronto, Canada; flexible hybrid workplace model

Salary: CAD 122,000–171,000 per year, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

• Design and build software for device bring-up, characterization, and production testing across bench and automated test equipment environments.
• Develop and maintain ATE test methods, test flows, instrument-control code, and internal test-framework components.
• Integrate optical and electrical instruments, wafer probers, embedded interfaces, and laboratory automation.
• Build data-logging and results pipelines for metric computation, yield analysis, and production handoff.
• Debug integration issues across the device under test, fixtures, instruments, firmware, and test software.
• Support test-program releases and collaborate daily with hardware, characterization, manufacturing, and test-software engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in hardware test software, ATE systems, or test architecture, ideally in semiconductor or photonics.
• Experience owning test-software architecture for a product line and scaling frameworks across projects and teams.
• Hands-on experience with ATE test-method or test-flow development, embedded test frameworks, and instrumentation automation using SCPI, VISA, or equivalent.
• Experience mentoring engineers and making technical decisions with hardware, characterization, and manufacturing teams.
• Ability to work across the hardware/software boundary, including reading and reasoning about embedded software, C/C++, controls, or firmware.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience integrating ATE with wafer-level hardware, including probers or handlers.
• Experience with photonic test instrumentation.
