TL;DR
Director, Career Services (Maritime Industry): Developing career development, placement, student employment, and internship programs for students and alumni with an accent on career counseling, employer outreach, and maritime industry partnerships. Focus on coordinating career fairs and leadership programs, assessing program effectiveness, managing staff and budgets, and building professional networks across marine sciences and maritime studies.

Location: Galveston, Texas, United States. The role allows an alternate work location in accordance with Texas A&M University System guidelines and may require occasional work outside normal office hours or on weekends.

Salary: $75,000 annually; proposed minimum salary of $6,250 monthly.

What you will do

  • Lead career development, placement, student employment, career counseling, assessment, and student development programs.
  • Coach students and alumni on career exploration, job-search materials, networking, and interviewing.
  • Develop experiential internships with academic deans, faculty, employers, alumni, and students.
  • Plan and oversee career fairs, professional development activities, and signature programs such as the Blue Economy Leadership Institute.
  • Build employer networks and maintain awareness of marine sciences and maritime industry trends.
  • Manage staff, budgets, grants, employer databases, the departmental website, marketing publications, and program assessments.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Business, Higher Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten years of related experience.
  • Ability to multitask, collaborate effectively, manage resources, and supervise or evaluate staff.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of employment practices and industry trends and participate in continuing education.
  • Compliance with state and federal laws, Texas A&M University System policies, regulations, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Security-sensitive position requiring a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials and other required information.

  • Experience or familiarity with marine sciences and the maritime industry.
