Estimator I (Construction)

Location: Bloomington, Minnesota; office-based, with the office moving soon to Edina

Estimated pay: $78,000–$124,000 per year

Adolfson & Peterson Construction is a construction manager and general contractor providing preconstruction, construction, and contracting services across multiple commercial and institutional markets.

What you will do

• Prepare conceptual estimates, detailed construction estimates, bids, cost models, budgets, and quantitative takeoffs.
• Review plans, specifications, project requirements, schedules, and constructability to develop accurate pricing and general conditions costs.
• Prepare bid-day documentation, scope comparisons, backup materials, and bid spreadsheets.
• Provide technical guidance on construction schedules, phasing, staffing, bid strategies, and subcontractor selection.
• Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, solicit bids, establish scopes, and support the buyout process.
• Coordinate with design teams, engineers, project participants, and senior estimators during proposals and bid closings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of related experience, or an associate degree with 5+ years of related experience.
• Proficiency in detailed estimate organization, quantity takeoffs, and conceptual or schematic estimating.
• Understanding of construction concepts, practices, procedures, project schedules, and facility durations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and familiarity with estimating software.
• Strong analytical, logical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under time constraints.
