Tech Lead Manager, Lending (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, IL; New York, NY; or San Francisco, CA, USA. The standard policy requires four days a week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office; a fully remote program is also available.

Salary: $199,000–$275,000 base salary annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Author and ship scoped, incremental lending features while remaining hands-on technically.
• Own the squad’s technical direction, architecture, code quality, design discussions, code reviews, and technical planning.
• Identify technical debt and establish sustainable engineering practices.
• Manage 3–5 engineers through 1:1s, career coaching, performance feedback, and promotion decisions.
• Drive hiring, staffing, team health, engagement, and an inclusive high-performing team culture.
• Partner with Product and Design on sprint scope, delivery commitments, dependencies, capacity, and quarterly planning.

Requirements

• Direct experience with lending, payments, or other regulated financial and transactional systems.
• Full people-management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and promotions, while remaining technically hands-on.
• Use AI coding tools and workflows as a core part of engineering leadership and have introduced AI-driven practices that improved team velocity.
• Ability to resolve technical disagreements and make speed-versus-durability decisions under delivery pressure.
• Strong ownership of both shipped outcomes and team performance, with a high quality bar maintained through design and code review.
