Geotechnical Engineering Staff I

Location: Elmwood, New Jersey, with field projects throughout New York, New Jersey, and the tri-state region

Salary: Starting at $70,000 per year; final compensation depends on qualifications and licensing status.

What you will do

• Perform soil sampling and subsurface investigations, including Standard Penetration Testing.
• Classify and document soil conditions and maintain accurate field records.
• Support geotechnical special inspections, pile observations, and earthwork monitoring.
• Prepare boring logs, field reports, technical reports, and project documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers, drilling crews, technicians, and engineering staff.
• Assist with CAD drafting and geotechnical data management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 1–2 years of geotechnical or related field experience.
• Knowledge of soil sampling and classification methods.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.
• Ability to work outdoors on active construction sites and lift up to 40 pounds.

Nice to have

• Basic experience with CAD and geotechnical software.
• Experience with NYC DOB Special Inspections.
• Familiarity with rock coring or RQD logging.
• Flexibility to work occasional nights, weekends, and extended field assignments.
