Fractional Chief AI Officer (AI)

Location: United States, remote; fractional, part-time engagements across multiple client organizations.

Typical market compensation: $250–$400 per hour.

What you will do

• Own AI strategy roadmaps by assessing organizational maturity, identifying high-impact use cases, and prioritizing investments across products, operations, and customer experience.
• Partner with executive leadership on AI governance, risk, compliance, data privacy, model validation, and responsible AI frameworks.
• Build and mentor AI leadership teams by advising on hiring, organizational structure, skill gaps, and leadership development.
• Evaluate AI vendors, third-party solutions, pilot programs, and make-or-buy decisions.
• Translate AI strategy and progress for boards, investors, and business stakeholders while quantifying business impact and competitive positioning.
• Define KPIs, track adoption and ROI, and advise on talent strategy and external partnerships.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience building and scaling technology or AI-driven initiatives, including 5+ years in executive or senior advisory roles focused on AI strategy, transformation, or product.
• Proven ability to translate AI research and engineering into measurable revenue growth, cost reduction, customer experience improvement, or operational efficiency.
• Deep knowledge of foundation models, RAG, prompt engineering, vector databases, and emerging AI tools.
• Experience as a fractional executive, advisor, or board member, with the ability to work part-time across multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences, including boards, engineering teams, and business leaders.
• Experience with governance, risk, compliance, data privacy, model governance, or responsible AI frameworks, preferably in regulated industries.

• Experience in technology, professional services, financial services, or life sciences.
